The Mardi Gras festivities kicked off this weekend in New Orleans and one local BBQ joint joined in the celebration.
If you were lucky enough to stop by NOLA Smokehouse on Saturday you had the opportunity to try one of these… the King Cake BBQ Sandwich. The sandwich is made with a King Cake roll, pulled pork and Mardi slaw.
BTW… the bark on this pulled pork looks amazing!
King Cake is a traditional dessert eaten during the Mardi Gras season. It is usually round or oval and decorated with a frosting dusted with purple, green, and gold sugar. A tradition is to hide a plastic baby Jesus in the cake but we like the idea of pulled pork better 🙂
NOLA Smokehouse opened in March 2014 but has already been receiving some impressive reviews and awards. We’re looking forward to visiting their place soon and hope they keep coming up with fun ideas like this one.
